The cause of a fire at a vacant house in the 3300 block of Emmorton Road in Abingdon is under investigation, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

More than 35 firefighters, primarily from the Abingdon Fire Company, responded to the fire in the abandoned, one-story dwelling around 9:22 p.m. Monday night. It took them about 10 minutes to get the fire under control, according to the fire marshal. The fire caused about $500 in damages.

A passerby reported the fire, the fire marshal said. Both the cause and origin of the flames remain under investigation as of Tuesday morning.
